Wilcom Associate Prize for 'New Designers'

'New Designers' Wilcom Associate Prize

'New Designers' holds a number of annual competitions that scope out the up-and-coming talent of today’s new designers and graduates in the UK. It gives new designers a chance to participate and get a foot into the design industry. Each year, New Designers, gives out a number of awards to designers and this year Wilcom was lucky enough to be the sponsor of the New Designers Wilcom Associate Prize.

The Winner for this prize was Alice Selwood from Falmouth University (left, with Wilcom's Rob Smith), who was awarded a complete EmbroideryStudio Designing e3 package with online training- valued at £5000 in total. Judges commented (on Alice’s work): “(She was) awarded for design creativity and understanding of the design process. She demonstrates an enthusiastic approach to digital embroidery”. Alice commented, saying: “It’s been manic, but I’ve loved it! This award will give me the ability to work with digital embroidery, which I couldn’t have afforded otherwise”.

This prize is an excellent opportunity for people who have just entered the design field to really get ahead. Not only do their creations get showcased, the creators also get a chance to receive feedback and have their work critiqued by other new and experienced designers. The show also attracts thousands of industry insiders each year, with both tradespeople and customers passing through.

New Designers gets involved with many others in the industry. Chris Warkup, the CEO of Knowledge Transfer Network found New Designers impressive and inspirational, "there's so much talent and such a wealth of new ideas under one roof”. The designers themselves can also meet established and influential designers face to face, making it a great networking opportunity.

Wilcom would like to congratulate Alice once more on her fantastic work, we hope she enjoys her EmbroideryStudio software package.
